Enhancing marine experiences and night-time content
4 winners selected with a total prize pool of 1 million won

WANDO — Wando County, Jeollanam-do Gwangju Unified Special City, announced on the 8th that it is holding a public contest until the 16th to find a new name for its flagship festival, the "Jangbogo Seafood Festival," as part of a comprehensive overhaul into a marine experience-centered festival.

The county plans to transform the festival into an inclusive event that people of all ages can enjoy by significantly expanding programs that reflect local characteristics, including diverse marine experiences, culinary options, performances, and night-time contents encompassing Wando’s ocean, islands, and fishery resources.

This name contest was designed to incorporate public ideas into the festival in accordance with the municipal administration policy of "participatory autonomy." The goal is to find a popular and creative name that well represents the local identity—such as Wando's sea, islands, and fishery resources—along with the identity of a marine-experience festival.

The contest runs until the 16th, and any South Korean citizen can participate. Participants can download the application form from the Wando County website and submit it online.

The submitted names will be evaluated based on symbolism, regional representation, public appeal, originality, and applicability. A total of four winners will be selected and awarded: 500,000 won for one grand prize winner, 300,000 won for one runner-up, and 100,000 won each for two encouragement awardees, amounting to a total prize pool of 1 million won.

For more information, please contact the Tourism Policy Team of the Wando County Tourism Department.

Wando County Mayor Kim Shin expressed his expectations, saying, "We hope to see a festival name that captures the charm of Wando and is memorable to anyone who hears it. We look forward to active participation from those with fresh ideas. We will revamp the festival with a new name and content to attract tourists and vitalize the local economy."
