Kakao Mobility announced that its artificial intelligence (AI) and big data-driven parking technology has reduced vehicle exit times by up to 20%. The company plans to transform parking lots from simple vehicle storage spaces into smart infrastructure that manages urban traffic flow, while expanding its business into overseas markets such as Saudi Arabia.
Kakao Mobility announced on the 25th that it participated as an official sponsor of the "2026 Gangneung Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress" to unveil its AI and data-based mobility technologies and research achievements. This year’s congress marks the world's largest ITS event, held in South Korea for the first time in 16 years.
On the 22nd, Kakao Mobility hosted a standalone session under the theme, "Redefining Urban Parking: Smart City Infrastructure Connected by AI and Data." During the event, the company showcased its technologies and operational milestones accumulated over nine years since the launch of "Kakao T Parking" in 2017.
In particular, the company revealed the results of analyzing approximately 1.62 million parking-related big data points. The application of Kakao T Parking Pass and automatic payment systems was shown to reduce vehicle exit times by up to approximately 20%. The company explained that this alleviated bottlenecks within parking lots by minimizing the time vehicles spend stopping or waiting during the exit process.
AI-based parking management technology was also showcased. Kakao Mobility is developing a system that manages parking spaces in real-time by combining AI technology—which recognizes license plates and parking spaces via cameras—with indoor-outdoor 3D spatial maps and digital twins.
The company is also accelerating its overseas expansion. Recently, it signed a Proof of Concept (PoC) contract for the Diriyah smart city project in Saudi Arabia, verifying the global applicability of the parking operation technology accumulated in South Korea.
Global cooperation was further promoted as well. During the congress, Kakao Mobility participated in the Korea-Netherlands Smart Mobility Joint Conference and held meetings with high-ranking officials from the Czech Ministry of Transport to discuss ways to foster international cooperation.
Transportation support services were also provided for foreign visitors. For international attendees, who accounted for about 70% of all paid registrants, a dedicated pickup point for the congress venue at the Gangneung Olympic Park was established on the foreign-visitor-exclusive platform "k.ride," alongside a designated on-site taxi boarding zone.
In recognition of these technology presentations and mobility support efforts, Kakao Mobility received a plaque of appreciation from the congress organizing committee.
"We will continuously advance our parking technology, which serves as essential infrastructure supporting urban traffic and will become a hub for future mobility in the autonomous driving era, while actively expanding into the global market," said Hwang Yoon-young, head of the Compliance Management Division at Kakao Mobility.
