The Busan Tourism Organization (CEO Lee Jung-sil, hereinafter referred to as the BTO) announced on the 22nd that the citizen-participatory science and culture event, "City Moonlight Festival in Yongdusan," will be held on the 24th from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the square in front of Busan Tower in Yongdusan Park.

Co-hosted by the City of Busan and the Busan Science & Technology Council, organized by the Busan Science Culture Hub Center, and sponsored by the BTO and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, this event combines astronomical observation with science-related hands-on experiences at Yongdusan Park, a prominent nighttime tourism landmark in Busan’s old downtown area.

Through this program, which merges a representative old-downtown tourist attraction with astronomical science, citizens and tourists can directly observe various celestial bodies such as the moon, planets, and autumn constellations right in the middle of the city, while listening to engaging explanations from science culture docents. 

A total of 8 refracting telescopes will be set up at the venue. Certified Level 2 astronomy guides (science culture docents) will assist with observations and easily introduce constellation lore as well as the latest space and astronomy issues.

Along with the telescope observation program titled "Twinkling Starlight Observation Zone," six interactive science experience booths will be operated: ▲ A Piece of the Night Sky, ▲ Spinning Traditional Science, ▲ Glowing Star Balloons, ▲ Sweet Space Travel, ▲ Moon Science Exploration, and ▲ Challenge! Space OX Quiz.

The BTO will support the event venue and on-site operations, offering Busan tourism souvenirs on a first-come, first-served basis to quiz winners and program participants.

All programs are free of charge, and anyone can participate on-site without prior reservation. However, schedules are subject to change or cancellation depending on weather conditions. Detailed information can be found through the Busan Science Culture Hub Center. 

The "City Moonlight Festival" first kicked off at Busan Station in 2023 and has been hosted at Yongdusan Park since 2024. Last year, it drew significant attention as a unique event combining Busan's old-downtown nightscape with science culture through astronomical observations and family experience programs. This year, with 8 telescopes and 6 experience booths, it aims to offer even more diverse participation opportunities for citizens and visitors.

An official from the BTO stated, "We will actively support event operations and promotions so that this professional science culture program blends seamlessly with the nighttime tourism charm of Yongdusan Park," adding, "We hope citizens and tourists enjoy a special autumn night in the old downtown area."
