Seoul, South Korea – The Digital Government Platform Committee has announced the nationwide launch of mobile resident registration cards, marking a significant step towards a digitalized government. Chairman Kim Chang-kyung demonstrated the simplicity of the new system by obtaining his own mobile resident registration card via QR code scanning at the Sajik-dong Community Center on June 14th.
This initiative, a joint effort between the Digital Government Platform Committee and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, aims to enhance convenience and security for citizens. After a successful pilot program that began late last year, the service is now available across the country.

Enhanced Accessibility:From June 14th, residents can apply for a mobile resident registration card at any community center within their registered address jurisdiction.
Starting June 28th, applications will be accepted at all community centers nationwide and online, eliminating geographical restrictions.
Simplified Application Process:The process involves scanning a QR code at the community center, streamlining the traditional application procedure.
IC cards can be used for ease of reissuance.
Increased Security:Mobile resident registration cards are securely stored on smartphones, reducing the risk of loss or theft associated with physical cards.
Encryption technology safeguards personal information.
Convenience and Efficiency:The mobile card can be used for identity verification in various public and private sector transactions, reducing the need to carry physical identification.
Government 24 applications can be used to verify the mobile ID.
Chairman Kim Chang-kyung emphasized the government's commitment to leveraging digital platforms to improve public services. "In the era of the digital platform government, we are dedicated to providing citizens with more convenient and efficient services," he stated.
This rollout represents a major advancement in South Korea's digital government initiatives, aligning with the global trend towards digitalization of public services.
