Andong, South Korea – The Andong Ice Festival, one of the largest winter festivals in the Yeongnam region, is set to return to Amusan Recreational Park from January 18th to 26th.   

After last year's festival was canceled due to unusually warm temperatures that prevented the formation of thick ice, organizers have confirmed that ice conditions are now suitable for the event. The ice thickness at the park has been measured at 25 to 37 centimeters, exceeding the recommended 25 to 30 centimeters.

This year's festival, themed "A Fun Winter Journey with Daehan and Sohan," offers a variety of winter activities including ice fishing, ice sledding, an ice playground, traditional winter games, and performances. The city of Andong has also created various photo zones featuring ice sculptures, ice walls, and windmills to provide visitors with memorable photo opportunities. Weekend events will include recreational activities and prize giveaways.   

To improve accessibility, the city will operate free shuttle buses every hour between Andong Terminal, Jungangseon 1942 Andong Station, and the festival site. Additionally, a free shuttle bus service will be provided between the parking lot and the festival venue.

To encourage local spending, visitors will receive Andong Love Gift Certificates (up to 5,000 won) as a rebate for activities like sledding. These gift certificates can be used at local shops and restaurants.

"After last year's unfortunate cancellation, we have made significant changes to this year's festival," said an official from the Andong city government. "We are committed to creating a festival that will be enjoyed by both residents and tourists."
