Pyeongtaek, South Korea – Pyeongtaek University has announced that it has achieved a remarkable feat in its 2025 admissions, securing the sixth highest competition ratio among all universities in South Korea. The university received 1,336 applications for 134 spots, resulting in an average competition ratio of 9.97:1.

This marks the fourth consecutive year of increased competition for the university, with the 2022 admissions seeing a ratio of 5.02:1. Several factors contributed to this year's surge in applications, including the introduction of new cutting-edge programs, such as the Intelligent Semiconductor Engineering program, which was recently designated as an advanced program by the Ministry of Education.

Located in Pyeongtaek, often referred to as the "semiconductor capital" of South Korea due to the presence of the world's largest semiconductor fabrication plant, Pyeongtaek University is strategically positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for semiconductor engineering talent. The university's "semiconductor bootcamp" initiative, supported by a government grant of 75 billion won over five years, allows students from non-semiconductor majors to earn micro-degrees in semiconductor-related fields.

Other factors driving the university's popularity include its flexible curriculum, which allows students to choose from a variety of majors and minors, and its strong emphasis on student support. The university has also simplified its admissions process by eliminating the need for multiple application documents and by basing admissions decisions solely on standardized test scores.
