Seoul, South Korea – The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced the early release of 750 billion won worth of "Seoul Love Gift Certificates," which can be used across all districts in the city. This move comes ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday as part of a broader effort to stimulate the local economy and support small businesses.
Starting from January 8th, residents can purchase the gift certificates at a 5% discount through the "Seoul Pay Plus" app. To further incentivize spending, eight districts—including Seongdong, Gangseo, and Seongbuk—are offering additional cashback events, providing an extra 2-5% discount when used at participating businesses.
To prevent server overload, the release of district-specific gift certificates will be staggered over three days, starting from January 14th. Residents can check the specific release dates for their district on the Seoul Pay Plus app.
"We hope that this initiative will help revitalize local businesses and encourage residents to spend within their communities," said a spokesperson for the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The gift certificates can be used at various local businesses, including restaurants, shops, and service providers. To ensure fair distribution, there is a monthly purchase limit of 500,000 won per individual.
By offering significant discounts and additional cashback incentives, the Seoul Metropolitan Government aims to boost consumer spending and strengthen the city's economic recovery.
