Doha, Qatar – South Korean weightlifters from the Gyeongnam province showcased exceptional strength and skill at the 2024 Asian Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships, held in Doha, Qatar from December 19-25. The young athletes dominated the competition, capturing a remarkable 10 out of the 15 medals won by the entire South Korean team.

Lee Ha-eun, a 17-year-old from Gyeongnam, was a standout performer, securing a clean sweep of gold medals in the Youth Women's 81kg+ category. She successfully lifted 97kg in the snatch and 130kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 227kg.

Park Ju-hyun, 18, also made his mark in the Junior Men's 73kg category. He claimed the gold medal in the snatch with a lift of 145kg but narrowly missed out on the top spot in the clean and jerk. Despite this, his combined total of 315kg earned him a silver medal.

Kim Min-geun, a 15-year-old middle school student, showcased exceptional talent in the Youth Men's 102kg category. He set new Korean middle school records in both the snatch and the combined total, securing a silver medal in the snatch and a bronze medal in the overall competition.

The impressive performance of the Gyeongnam weightlifters has solidified their position as rising stars in the sport and has generated excitement for the future of South Korean weightlifting.
