Paju City to Construct Gongneung Riverside Plaza

Paju City announced on December 31st that it will invest 800 million won in special adjustment grants from Gyeonggi-do Province to construct the Gongneung Riverside Plaza in Bongilcheon.

The Gongneung Riverside Plaza project aims to create a waterfront space under the Bongilcheon Bridge, providing residents with a place to relax and enjoy leisure activities.

The plaza will feature a circular walking trail, a riverside plaza, outdoor exercise equipment, and convenience facilities such as restrooms.

Recognizing that the construction of public restrooms along the Gongneungcheon River had long been a desire of residents in Joli-eup and Geumchon-dong, the city prioritized this project and began construction on the public restroom in October.

After two months of construction, the public restroom was completed near the intersection in front of the Bongilcheon Bridge in Joli-eup (near the Hanla Vivaldi Apartment) and was temporarily opened to the public on December 27th.

The restroom is equipped with an "emergency call button" that connects to the police in case of emergencies. To prevent crime and ensure public safety, the city plans to install additional closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras around the restroom.

The restroom will be open from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and will be closed on weekends and holidays. The operating hours will be extended in the future.

Paju City is currently coordinating with the Han River Basin Environment Office for a riverbed use permit related to the construction of the Gongneung Riverside Plaza and plans to begin construction as early as the first half of 2025.

Jeong Jeong-hee, director of the Urban Management Division, said, "We expect that the riverside plaza, which will be integrated with the Gongneungcheon River, will provide residents with a place to relax and enjoy leisure time, thereby contributing to improving the quality of life of residents. We will do our best to successfully complete the Gongneung Riverside Plaza project."
