Gangnam District, Seoul, South Korea – The Gangnam District has approved a budget of 1.3737 trillion won (approximately US$1.03 billion) for 2025, marking a 6.5% increase from the previous year. This budget is aimed at fostering sustainable growth and development in the district.

As Gangnam celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025, the district has identified this as a crucial turning point to shape the next 100 years. The budget is strategically allocated across various sectors, including the economy, culture, safety, welfare, and environment, to ensure balanced development.

Key allocations in the 2025 budget include:

Economic Development and Future Industries: 968 billion won will be invested in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, promoting robot-friendly initiatives, and fostering a thriving local economy.
Culture: 1.866 billion won will be dedicated to cultural initiatives such as the Gangnam Festival and the construction of a multi-cultural center in Ilwon 1-dong, Gaepo 3-dong, and Suseo-dong.
Welfare: 6.132 billion won will be allocated to enhance welfare services, including the opening of a senior citizen's complex, prenatal health care, childcare center environment management, and job creation for people with disabilities.
Safety: 945 billion won will be invested in safety measures such as expanding CCTV installations and preventing potholes at bus stops.
Environment: 1.291 billion won will be used for environmental improvements and green spaces, including the renovation of aging neighborhood parks and the promotion of carbon neutrality policies.

New initiatives for 2025 include:

Education and Culture: Expanding scholarships to nurture local talent, supporting unemployed youth with language and certification exam fees, and constructing a public library in Suseo-dong.
Environment and Green Spaces: Developing a large-scale park in Gaepo-dong and creating more green spaces within the urban area, such as book cafes and healing forests.
Economic Revitalization: Issuing public delivery-only vouchers, improving the environment around Yangjae Station, and supporting resident-led district-specific festivals.
Health and Welfare: Establishing a comprehensive addiction management support center and operating an emergency medical clinic.

Expanding successful programs:

The district will expand programs that have received positive feedback from residents, such as the Reconstruction Dream Support Task Force, the introduction of an AI-based intelligent screening and control system, the installation of smart streetlights, increased support for condominiums, and expanding bus fare support to include youth.

Gangnam District Mayor Jo Sung-myeong emphasized, "2025 is a crucial year for the fruition of our core projects. By concentrating our financial resources on essential areas, we aim to deliver tangible results that enhance the lives of our residents and solidify Gangnam's position as a global leading city."

The 2025 budget reflects Gangnam's commitment to sustainable growth and improving the quality of life for its residents. By investing in various sectors and introducing innovative initiatives, the district aims to create a more vibrant and resilient community.
