Jayapura, Papua – PT PLN (Persero) Unit Induk Wilayah (UIW) Papua and Papua Barat has officially launched the first public electric vehicle charging station (SPKLU) in Jayapura Regency, Papua, as part of the government's initiative to accelerate the adoption of battery-based electric vehicles (KLBB).

Rizky Mochamad, General Manager of PLN UIW Papua and Papua Barat, announced on Saturday that the SPKLU is strategically located at the premises of the PLN Customer Service Unit (ULP) Sentani in Jayapura Regency.

"We are excited to introduce this new charging station, hoping to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles for the people of Jayapura Regency," said Rizky.

The SPKLU is integrated with the PLN Mobile app, allowing users to conveniently make payments and monitor the charging process.

"Equipped with a 22-kilowatt capacity, this SPKLU can fully charge an electric vehicle in 2-4 hours, depending on the battery capacity," Rizky explained.

The charging rates are in accordance with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 1 of 2023, set at Rp 2,466 per kilowatt hour (kWh).

"Compared to conventional fuel-powered vehicles, the cost of charging an electric vehicle is significantly lower," he added.

Greg Yoku, Secretary of the Jayapura Regency Agriculture and Food Security Agency, expressed his appreciation for the inauguration of the SPKLU.

"The presence of this SPKLU is a groundbreaking development for Jayapura Regency, and the government is ready to collaborate with PLN to advance the region and accelerate the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem," said Yoku.

Greg hopes that the SPKLU will encourage more people in Jayapura Regency to adopt environmentally friendly electric vehicles.
