- Secures 5.8 billion won ($5.5M USD) in national funding for tourism contests, achieves zero casualties during the summer season

Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 23rd that it selected and awarded four departments—the Economic Innovation Promotion Division, Tourism Policy Division, Childcare Division, and Disaster Response Division—at the provincial government’s multipurpose hall in recognition of their outstanding achievements in major provincial administration sectors for the third quarter of 2026.
The awards ceremony was designed to encourage departments that produced excellent results through creative administration and to foster a performance-oriented organizational culture.
The Economic Innovation Promotion Division focused on fostering new industries and establishing foundations for corporate investment. Pohang AI Dedicated Data Center (Project No. 9) and Andong Forest Resource Collection Center (Project No. 11) were selected for the Regional Revitalization Investment Fund project. It also materialized the foundation for the "4 Major Foundry Projects" by signing business agreements related to robot and quantum materials, parts, and equipment (MPE) foundries. Furthermore, it worked to resolve corporate difficulties and improve regulations by operating the Corporate Regulation On-site Support Team.

The Tourism Policy Division enhanced regional tourism competitiveness through contest selections and national funding acquisition. It secured 5.5 billion won in national funding through various public contests and was selected for the Ultra-wide Area Tourism Transportation Innovation Leading District (Daegu-Gyeongbuk) and the Global Tourism Special Zone Promotion Project (Gyeongju).
Under the "5 Major Mega Tourism Zone Promotion Project Centered on Local Airports," Gyeongju was selected nationwide as the only city linked to two tourism zones (Daegu Airport and Gimhae Airport). It also improved the implementation system for the Three Major Culture Zones projects, including establishing a dedicated organization within the Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Organization.
The Childcare Division reduced blind spots in childcare and established a meticulous care system. It expanded the operation facilities of the Gyeongbuk-style care model "K-Bodre 6000" and introduced night and weekend extended care for disabled children for the first time nationwide. During the Chuseok holiday, it operated 74 emergency facilities to minimize childcare gaps. It also won the Grand Prize in the childcare support category at the "2026 Child is Happiness Awards." In addition, it is striving to improve policies by promoting a performance analysis research project targeting provincial residents.

The Disaster Response Division achieved remarkable results in preventing casualties through prompt on-site responses. During heavy rainfall in the Uiseong and Andong regions from July 18 to 19, it performed 20 life-saving rescues and 197 safety measures, achieving zero casualties during the summer season. It also took first place nationwide in the national team-level simulation tactical training Best Team Selection Contest and won the Grand Prize in two categories at the 12th National Volunteer Fire Department Lecture Contest.
Hwang Myung-seok, Administrative Vice Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, stated, "The 9th popular election term is a critical implementation period in which we must complete the industrial transition and realize a settled Gyeongbuk where residents want to live and stay. I thank the staff for their dedication in achieving valuable results across various fields such as investment attraction, public livelihood care, and safety."
He added, "Please continue to push forward with key provincial administration tasks without wavering, creating innovative outcomes that residents can feel in their daily lives, and pool your capabilities so that Gyeongbuk can leap forward as an ultra-first-class local government leading the Republic of Korea."
The province plans to enhance the execution power of the 9th popular election's core strategic tasks, ensuring that key projects lead to tangible changes in the daily lives of its residents.
