Western Core Look Popular Among Young People This Spring

This spring, the "Western Core Look," a modern reinterpretation of the 70s and 80s cowboy style, is gaining attention, especially among young people. This fashion style, characterized by unique details such as leather suede, fringe, and denim, seems to be inspired by Western movies.

According to LF on the 10th, search volume for "suede" on LF Mall from January to February increased by 450% compared to the same period last year, and search volume for "studs" increased by 90%. Search volume for "cowboy," a related keyword for the Western Core, also increased by 60%.

In line with this trend, LF's Atte Vanesa Bruno increased the volume of suede accessories by more than 10 times compared to last year. Atte Vanesa Bruno's "Panier Bucket Bag" in gray, made with premium suede, was so popular that it sold out immediately after its release.

At Jill Stuart New York, the "Bow Bag" with camel suede material and shirring design ranked first in the brand's bag sales, going into its third reorder since its release at the end of last year. Isabel Marant, which LF imports and sells, also introduced a spring/summer collection reflecting the Western Core style.

During the same period, search volume for related keywords such as suede bags, shoes, mustangs, and belts on 29CM, operated by Musinsa, also increased by more than twice compared to last year. Transaction volume for suede mustangs increased by 280%, followed by suede boots (147%), suede bags (136%), and suede loafers (105%).

The popularity of suede outerwear, which is good for use in the spring and between seasons, was particularly noticeable. The Papa Suede Jacket from women's designer brand Hague saw a transaction volume increase of more than 11 times in February compared to December last year on 29CM. Kiho's Pinking Mary Jane Sneakers with suede material also entered the top ranks of 29CM's weekly best-selling women's shoes.

At W Concept, sales of suede-related products such as suede jackets and bags increased by 430% from January to February compared to last year. Sales of bohemian clothing such as bohemian dresses and ruffle blouses increased by 40%.

The industry predicts that suede, which was considered a fall/winter item, will be popular again this spring as the Western Core Look becomes trendy. A fashion industry official said, "As concerns about inflation and economic recession grow, the strong image of the American frontier era seems to be evoking nostalgia for the past. Emphasizing an independent lifestyle and a sense of freedom seems to be in line with recent trends."
