Hongseong, Chungnam – Hongseong County has achieved a significant milestone in its cultural development, being officially designated as a "Korean Culture City" by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. The announcement was made on December 26th, 2024.

The county's cultural revitalization project, which commenced in December 2023, received national recognition after a rigorous evaluation process. With a vision to foster a "harmonious and culturally rich Hongseong," the county secured 199 billion won in funding over the next three years to implement nine innovative cultural projects.

A key focus of Hongseong's cultural initiative is to leverage the region's abundant agricultural resources, including organic produce, seafood, and beef. Plans are underway to establish a food supply chain that will distribute locally sourced, gourmet food products to major metropolitan areas.

A Catalyst for Regional Growth The designation as a "Korean Culture City" is expected to significantly boost Hongseong's cultural influence and attract more visitors. The provincial government of Chungnam has pledged its full support, emphasizing the importance of inter-regional cooperation and joint projects to nurture a thriving cultural ecosystem.

"This achievement marks a new chapter in Hongseong's cultural heritage," said Jo Jin-bae, Director of the Cultural Policy Division at Chungnam Province. "We are committed to supporting Hongseong as it evolves into a leading cultural destination in Korea."
