After 16 years of planning and construction, Daejeon's Myeongam Neighborhood Park is finally set to open to the public in March. This ambitious project, costing 28.9 billion KRW, has transformed a once-neglected area into a vibrant green space for residents to enjoy.

The park, spanning nearly 30,000 square meters, boasts a variety of features, including landscaped gardens, a jokgu field, and a futsal field. It promises to be a haven for recreation and relaxation in the heart of the city.

The park's creation is particularly meaningful for the residents of Myeongam Village. Since 1976, the area was home to a public crematorium, which led to environmental concerns and a decline in property values. The new park is seen as a way to revitalize the neighborhood and create a more positive environment for everyone.

"The Jeongsuwon crematorium will be relocated to Daejeon Memorial Park due to its age and increasing demand," said Kim Jong-min, Director of Welfare Bureau of Daejeon City. "We believe that this new park will not only address the negative perceptions associated with the crematorium but also provide a much-needed green space for the community."

The city plans to hand over the park's management to the Seo-gu Office in March and will continue to support its upkeep to ensure that it remains a safe and enjoyable space for all.
