Hải Phòng Seaport Targets 112 Million Tonnes Cargo Handling in 2025

HẢI PHÒNG – The Hải Phòng seaport system aims to handle 112 million tonnes of cargo in 2025, according to Director Bùi Nguyên Khôi of the Hải Phòng Maritime Port Authority.

This ambitious target is accompanied by projections of serving 17,000 ship arrivals and collecting VND180 billion (US$7.1 million) in fees.

To achieve these goals while ensuring safety and efficiency, the authority is implementing several key strategies:

Improving Administrative Procedures: Streamlining processes through a specialized software to enhance the national single-window mechanism, facilitating business operations.
Enhancing Maritime Safety: Leveraging the VTS navigation system for improved guidance, regulation, and monitoring of vessels. Strengthening inspections of maritime security, environmental pollution, and fire prevention.
Addressing Waste Management: Collaborating with the municipal government and relevant stakeholders to identify suitable dumping sites for waste generated from construction, dredging, and maintenance activities.
Prioritizing Safety and Environmental Protection: Stepping up the dissemination of maritime law and local regulations, and strengthening law enforcement to mitigate risks and protect the marine environment.

Challenges:

The Hải Phòng seaport system faces several challenges, including limited waste dumping sites, increasing pressure on maritime safety and environmental protection due to growing maritime activities, and the need to address concerns like piracy, fuel oil sulfur content, and ballast water treatment.

By addressing these challenges and implementing the outlined strategies, the Hải Phòng Maritime Port Authority aims to further develop the city's seaport system into a key driver of economic growth.
