HANOI — Northern Vietnam is bracing for a cold snap, with severe cold spells predicted for high mountainous regions starting February 23, according to the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.

The center forecasts drizzle and scattered fog across northern Vietnam from the night of February 19 until February 27, with light rain expected in the northwest. A significant temperature drop is anticipated from February 23, bringing cold conditions, particularly to higher altitudes.

For Wednesday, the forecast includes:

Northern Region (including Hanoi): Cloudy with drizzle and cold temperatures ranging from 15 to 19 degrees Celsius.
Northwest: Daytime temperatures between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius, but some areas could fall below 14 degrees Celsius overnight.
Northeast: Persistent cloud cover with occasional drizzle. Temperatures between 14 and 19 degrees Celsius, with mountainous areas dropping below 13 degrees Celsius.
North-Central Vietnam (Thanh Hoa to Hue): Cloudy with intermittent rain in the northern areas. Temperatures ranging from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius.
Central Vietnam (Da Nang to Binh Thuan): Scattered showers, with daytime temperatures between 24 and 31 degrees Celsius.
Central Highlands: Mostly sunny with nighttime thunderstorms in some areas. Temperatures ranging from 17 to 30 degrees Celsius.
Southern Vietnam: Sunny days with scattered thunderstorms at night. Temperatures ranging from 22 to 34 degrees Celsius.
