JEONBUK, South Korea – Jeonbuk Province is taking a significant leap into the future with the development of a cutting-edge science and technology complex. This initiative aims to revolutionize the region's existing manufacturing-based industry and secure future growth engines by establishing a hub for advanced industries.

Strategic Locations: Gimje and Jeongeup

After careful consideration of regional characteristics and strengths, Jeonbuk Province has selected Gimje and Jeongeup as the optimal locations for this ambitious project.

Gimje: The "Intelligent Agricultural Robot Advanced Science and Technology Complex," spanning approximately 700,000 pyeong (about 570 acres) in Gongdeok-myeon, Gimje, will be established with the vision of becoming a "global next-generation core hub for intelligent agricultural robots." The plan is to attract leading companies and key institutions in the intelligent agricultural robot industry, creating an industrial ecosystem that encompasses the entire process from technology research and development to demonstration. The province aims to create synergy by linking with future mobility and bio-agricultural industries.
Jeongeup: The "Advanced Medical Complex Advanced Science and Technology Complex" in Ipam-myeon, Jeongeup, aims to "lead the era of super-differentiation by securing world-class medical complex industry and global competitiveness." On a site of approximately 300,000 pyeong (about 245 acres), the complex will utilize bio and medical infrastructure for responding to infectious diseases and attract related companies to centralize advanced bio research capabilities. The strategy is to foster advanced bio as a core industry and bio-agriculture as a related industry, thereby building a medical complex industry cluster.

A Special Approach

Unlike typical national industrial complexes, the Jeonbuk Advanced Science and Technology Complex is being promoted in a unique way. It will be designated by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport through a proposal from Jeonbuk Province. The groundwork for this has already been laid through the revision of the "Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Special Act," which is significant in that it allows the region to secure future growth engines independently.

The Road Ahead

With the selection of target sites for the advanced science and technology complex, Jeonbuk Province plans to accelerate its detailed implementation plan. A provincial official stated, "As it takes time to create an industrial complex, we are thoroughly preparing in advance with a long-term perspective. We will closely cooperate with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to lead the designation of a new national advanced industrial complex and enhance Jeonbuk's competitiveness in line with the purpose of the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Act."

This initiative is expected to bring about a significant transformation in the industrial landscape of Jeonbuk Province, positioning it as a leader in advanced science and technology.
