"Boryeong Must Create a 'Stay-Longer' Experience Through Inland Tourism"

Governor Park Soo-hyun Emphasizes "Securing Diversity" at Boryeong "Chungnam Tonghaeng" Press Conference
"The Island Biennale is a Major Task as Governor... Devising Strategies to Attract Global Visitors"

Chungnam Governor Park Soo-hyun has called for new strategies to move beyond the limitations of Boryeong’s sea-centric tourism, stressing the need to secure tourism diversity that extends all the way to the inland areas.

On the 13th, Governor Park held a press conference in the medium conference room of Boryeong City Hall as part of the Boryeong "Chungnam Tonghaeng" (Chungnam Communication Tour) program.

During the event, Governor Park cited the Mud Festival as a major strength of Boryeong tourism, describing it as "a world-class and remarkable festival ranking among the top 5 in Korea."

However, he analyzed, "Because the Mud Festival is concentrated along the coast and held only during the summer season, it faces structural limitations in drastically increasing the number of tourists."

Consequently, Governor Park proposed "Healing Chungnam," stating, "We need a strategy that enables tourists visiting the coastal Mud Festival to experience inland tourism and stay in Boryeong for an extra day."

Governor Park emphasized, "We must transform Chungnam into a space that heals the lives of urban residents," adding, "It is crucial to secure diversity in Boryeong's tourism by taking on challenges like the upcoming 'Wellness Special Zone' competition."

In response to a suggestion that young participants of next year's World Youth Day should be attracted to the Mud Festival, he stated that he would actively support the initiative.

Regarding the integrated headquarters of power generation public enterprises, he reiterated the push for "Chungnam's bid," stating, "We are doing our utmost together with Boryeong, Taean, and Dangjin."

He also reaffirmed his stance, saying, "Even if the bid for the integrated headquarters in Chungnam does not succeed, it is inappropriate to view it as if Chungnam will completely collapse."

Regarding next year's Island Biennale, he remarked, "It is a tremendously significant task even for the governor himself," and noted that preparation plans for a successful hosting are currently underway.

Mentioning his visit to Godae Island and Wonsan Island last weekend, Governor Park highlighted the importance of content after inspecting the main and outdoor exhibition sites, stating, "We are conceptualizing 'stepping stones' to attract international visitors."

On the Boryeong-Daejeon Expressway, he stated, "It is an ultra-regional transportation network designed to enhance accessibility to Boryeong," adding, "We are working to reflect this in the national plan while also planning joint proposals at the Chungcheong Regional Alliance level."

Regarding the provincial nursing home, he explained, "We are currently inspecting whether there are any issues and looking into measures for further development."
