Sangrok District Redevelopment Project in Anyang to Finally Begin

Anyang, South Korea – After years of delays, the Sangrok District redevelopment project in Anyang is set to finally begin construction. The redevelopment committee announced on October 26th that it has successfully reached an agreement with all property owners and those eligible for cash compensation.

The last remaining building, a former real estate office, will be demolished on October 27th, clearing the way for construction to start in early 2024. The project is expected to be completed in several years.

Located in Anyang 8-dong, the Sangrok District redevelopment project involves transforming a 69,911.7 square meter area into a modern residential complex. The project was initiated in 2009 with the aim of improving the living conditions of residents and revitalizing the area. However, the project faced significant delays due to various challenges, including road expansion issues.

A 2009 traffic impact assessment raised concerns about increased congestion in the area. As a result, the project was conditional upon the acquisition of a nearby commercial district to widen a road. However, negotiations between the redevelopment committee and property owners over the purchase price proved to be a major stumbling block, causing significant delays.

GS Construction has been selected as the contractor for the project. The new apartment complex, tentatively named Sangrok Jaeye, will consist of 17 buildings with a maximum of 29 floors, offering a total of 1,716 residential units.

"After years of challenges, we are finally ready to begin the demolition process," said Kim Sung-beom, chairman of the Sangrok District Redevelopment Committee. "This is a momentous occasion for our community. We are committed to creating a modern and comfortable residential complex that will become a new landmark in Anyang."
