Namyangju, South Korea – A 59-year-old man has been sentenced to eight months in prison for a series of violent incidents, including attacking churchgoers and intimidating witnesses.
A district court in Namyangju found A guilty of charges including assault, intimidation, and disruption of religious services.
The incidents began in May 2023 when A, under the influence of alcohol, entered a church during a service and caused a disturbance. He assaulted a 62-year-old man who tried to stop him, leaving the victim with facial injuries.
In August, A returned to the church and threatened two pastors who had testified against him in court regarding the earlier incident. He also physically assaulted one of the pastors.
Additionally, A was involved in separate altercations with other individuals, including a 60-year-old man whom he assaulted in a public space and a 66-year-old acquaintance with whom he engaged in a mutual fight.
The court considered A's history of similar offenses and the severity of his actions, particularly his targeting of individuals who had testified against him. While acknowledging that some of the victims had expressed a willingness to forgive A, the judge emphasized the seriousness of his crimes.
