Finnish Unemployment Rises Sharply in November

Helsinki - Unemployment in Finland continued to climb in November, reaching 292,400 jobseekers, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. This marks a significant increase of 28,100 compared to the same period last year and a further rise of 7,300 from October.

Key Factors:

Long-term Unemployment: A concerning trend is the rise in long-term unemployment, with over 102,600 individuals unemployed for a year or more.
Youth Unemployment: Unemployment among young people (under 25) also increased, reaching 32,100.
Layoffs: The number of people fully laid off rose by 2,900 from October, reaching 24,600.
Vacancy Decline: The number of new job vacancies reported in November plummeted by 21,600 compared to the previous year, indicating a weakening labor market.

Government Initiatives:

Local Government Pilots: The number of unemployed individuals participating in local government employment programs increased by 20,100 year-on-year, reaching 167,200.
Activation Services: 105,100 individuals were covered by employment activation services, including subsidies, training, and rehabilitation programs.

Labor Force Survey:

The official Labor Force Survey by Statistics Finland showed a slightly higher unemployment rate of 9.0% in November, compared to 7.7% a year earlier.
The number of employed individuals decreased by 32,000 year-on-year.
