Nakuru County is poised to revolutionize its land management with the imminent launch of the state-of-the-art Nakuru County Land Information Management System (NLIMS). This digital platform aims to streamline land administration, reduce disputes, and enhance transparency, according to Chief Officer of Lands and Physical Planning, Ms. Stella Mwaura.

Developed with technical support from Digireg Consultants, NLIMS is currently undergoing final reviews to ensure it meets user needs and addresses potential gaps. The system will be accessible via web, mobile, and desktop applications, making land management processes more efficient and user-friendly.

"NLIMS is an integrated system designed to manage urban land use by combining spatial and non-spatial data, bridging the gap between our growing population and the demand for efficient land planning," Ms. Mwaura stated.

The system will enable residents to search land ownership records, verify titles, transfer ownership, pay land rates, upload receipts, download rent clearance certificates, and register property charges, all online. This digital transformation is expected to minimize bureaucracy and reduce bottlenecks.

This initiative, supported by Financial Sector Deepening Kenya (FSD Kenya), aligns with Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to sustainable development and a well-planned county, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Kenya’s Vision 2030. The system is designed to be less vulnerable to corruption and human interference, with file tracking capabilities ensuring accountability.

"Once activated, all land deals across Nakuru County will be conducted online, from anywhere, via a website or mobile app portal," Ms. Mwaura emphasized. "This system will centralize land information, offering a detailed database for land ownership, use, and zoning, crucial for informed decision-making on infrastructure, housing, and public services."

The implementation of NLIMS is a significant step towards modernizing land administration in Nakuru County, aiming to revitalize urban centers and improve living standards for its citizens. The system will save time and resources by digitizing processes that were previously paper-based and labor-intensive.

Ms. Mwaura highlighted that Kenya Vision 2030 recognizes proper land administration as a key driver for development, with NLIMS being a crucial remedy for effective land management. The system is designed to be a reliable data source for urban planning and resource allocation across the county’s 11 sub-counties.
