Gyeongju, South Korea – In a move set to highlight the richness of Korean traditional arts on a global stage, the Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation and the National Jeongdong Theater have formalized a partnership to stage a special performance for the upcoming 2025 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Summit. The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on June 18 to bring the acclaimed new production, "Dansim," to Gyeongju, where the summit is scheduled to take place.

The collaboration represents a strategic effort to showcase Korea’s vibrant cultural heritage to world leaders and delegates from across the Asia-Pacific region. "Dansim," a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic Korean folktale "The Tale of Shim Cheong," has been selected as the centerpiece of this cultural diplomacy. The show, which blends traditional Korean performance arts with modern sensibilities, is a fitting choice to represent the dynamic evolution of Korean culture. Currently enjoying a successful run at the National Jeongdong Theater, the show has already generated significant buzz for its creative team and star-studded cast.

A Fusion of Talent and Tradition 

"Dansim" is a testament to the collaborative spirit of Korean performing arts. It is led by celebrated director Jeong Ku-ho and choreographer Jeong Hye-jin, both of whom have brought their unique vision to this ambitious project. The production has also made headlines for featuring the renowned actress Chae Shi-ra in a surprising role as a dancer, demonstrating the cross-disciplinary appeal of the show.

The performance is scheduled to be held at the Gyeongju Expo Culture Center as part of the official cultural program for the APEC Summit. "This year is especially significant as it marks the 50th anniversary of the Bomun Tourist Complex and the 30th anniversary of the National Jeongdong Theater," he said. "Bringing our two organizations together through the arts is a joyous occasion."

President Kim also revealed that "Dansim" is just one part of a larger series of cultural events planned for the APEC Summit. "In addition to this special performance, we will also be hosting a traditional arts performance in Yukbu Village, a special show titled 'The Show! Silla,' and a special exhibition at the Solgeo Museum within the Gyeongju Expo," he announced, urging the public to take an interest in the planned festivities.
