[GLOBAL ECONOMIC TIMES]  The Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education announced on October 17 that it held the ‘2024 Daejeon Bilingual Speech Contest’ in which elementary and middle school students from the Daejeon area participated at Pai Chai University’s Unam Hall.

The Daejeon Bilingual Speech Contest is an opportunity for students with immigrant backgrounds to freely present stories about their dreams and future in Korean and the language of their parents' country (hereinafter referred to as their native language) to develop their bilingual strengths and grow into global talents. It was planned to lay a foundation.

 
In this competition, 10 excellent elementary and middle school students who passed the regional preliminary round participated and presented their own Korean and bilingual manuscripts in each language. They answered the judges' questions in bilingual and demonstrated their creativity, confidence, and presentation skills. It was a passionate contest.


Students with immigrant backgrounds presented about their dreams and future in various languages, including Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Sri Lankan, and Mongolian, and developed cultural understanding and international perspectives through exchanges with other participants. The three outstanding students selected in the final competition will once again demonstrate their talents by representing Daejeon in the National Bilingual Speech Contest held on November 23.

“The Bilingual Speech Contest is a valuable experience that can develop students’ bilingual skills and self-esteem, and it will be an opportunity for students to grow and grow in school with confidence,” said Jeongbyeong Yoon, manager of the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education. “We will actively support students with immigrant backgrounds who have cultural experience and tolerance so that they can develop their strengths and potential to the fullest and grow into global talents,” he said.
