SINGAPORE – The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has launched a special exhibition marking its 60th anniversary, celebrating six decades of dedication and commitment to safeguarding Singapore's sovereignty and security.

Today, Senior Minister of State for Defence, Mr. Zaqy Mohamad, officiated the opening of the SAF60 Exhibition at the Singapore Discovery Centre. He was accompanied by Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong, and Chief Executive Officer, Defence Science and Technology Agency, Mr. Joseph Tan. The event was attended by the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, senior officials, and both current and former personnel from the Ministry of Defence and the SAF.

Themed "Defending Our Home, Securing Our Future," the exhibition encapsulates the SAF's unwavering mission and dedication to protecting Singapore's sovereignty, security, and future. It traces the SAF's journey from its humble beginnings to its present status as a modern and technologically advanced armed force. The exhibition also highlights the SAF's pivotal role in safeguarding Singapore's sovereignty and its contributions to the nation's peace and progress over the past 60 years.

A key feature of the exhibition is the inclusion of compelling personal stories and experiences of servicemen and women who have dedicated themselves to Singapore's defence. Furthermore, it provides in-depth information on the SAF's ongoing efforts to ensure Singapore remains a secure and independent nation in an ever-evolving security landscape.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Zaqy Mohamad emphasized the significance of the exhibition, stating, "This exhibition is a powerful opportunity to bring the stories behind the SAF's success closer to all Singaporeans, showcasing how dedication, innovation, and the support of our people have built the strong defence force we rely on today."

Veteran Singaporean military officer, retired Lieutenant-Colonel Albert Singh, who attended the event, shared his reflections: "This exhibition provides a profound understanding of the immense transformation and progress the SAF has made since its early days. I am confident that the SAF will continue to safeguard our nation, now and in the future."

The SAF's 60th anniversary marks a significant milestone in Singapore's defence history, made possible by the dedication and sacrifices of all past and present SAF personnel, as well as the unwavering support of the Singaporean people. Following its initial run at the Singapore Discovery Centre, the commemorative exhibition will tour various public venues, including PA integration community hubs and SAFRA clubhouses.

History of the Singapore Armed Forces: Officially established in 1965 following Singapore's independence, the SAF has rapidly evolved through consistent investment and innovation to become one of Southeast Asia's most modern and potent military forces, despite its relatively short history.

Role of the Singapore Armed Forces: The SAF plays a crucial role in defending the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also actively participates in a wide range of missions, including counter-terrorism, disaster relief, and international peacekeeping operations.

Technology-Centric Military: The SAF continually invests in the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and the modernization of its capabilities to prepare for future security challenges.

A Military with the People: Through its national service system, the SAF maintains close ties with the Singaporean people and highly values public understanding and support for national defence.

The Singapore Armed Forces 60th Anniversary Exhibition serves as a valuable opportunity to honor the dedication of the servicemen and women who have served Singapore's security and to reinforce the importance of national defence among Singaporeans.
