CHEONAN, SOUTH KOREA – The civic-minded employees of Cheonan City have exhibited remarkable compassion and unity by collectively raising over 33 million Korean Won (KRW) to aid those impacted by the devastating wildfires that recently ravaged the Yeongnam region. The significant contribution, amassed through the voluntary participation of 1,161 city personnel, was formally presented to the Community Chest of Chungnam on the 8th of April.

The handover ceremony, a testament to the city's commitment to national solidarity, was held at Cheonan City Hall. Dignitaries present included Cheonan City Mayor Park Sang-don, Lee Young-joon, the Chairman of the Cheonan City Government Employees' Labor Union, and Yoo Byung-seol, the Secretary-General of the Community Chest of Chungnam.

The fundraising initiative, spanning five days from March 31st to April 4th, witnessed an outpouring of support from across the Cheonan City workforce. This collective effort underscores the deep empathy felt by the community for those who have suffered immense losses due to the natural disaster.

Adding to this commendable display of generosity, the Cheonan City Government Employees' Labor Union independently contributed an additional 1 million KRW to the cause, further amplifying the financial assistance directed towards the wildfire victims.

The entirety of the donated funds will be administered by the Community Chest of Chungnam, ensuring that the resources are effectively channeled to provide essential support for the stabilization of life and the implementation of comprehensive recovery initiatives within the hardest-hit areas of the Yeongnam region. These funds are expected to facilitate crucial aid, assisting residents in rebuilding their lives and restoring their communities.

Mayor Park Sang-don, speaking at the donation ceremony, conveyed his deep appreciation for the altruism of the city's employees. "The heartfelt contributions from our Cheonan City staff reflect our collective desire to offer solace and practical assistance to those who have been profoundly affected by this tragic event," he stated. "We sincerely hope that these funds will provide a measure of relief to those who have lost their homes and livelihoods. Cheonan City remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the affected communities as they navigate the arduous journey towards recovery and the restoration of their daily lives."

This act of solidarity from Cheonan City employees highlights the strong sense of community and mutual support that prevails across the nation in times of adversity. Their prompt and substantial response will undoubtedly provide much-needed assistance to the individuals and families striving to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the devastating wildfires.
