The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Yu In-chon) and the Korea Tourism Organization (hereafter referred to as the Tourism Organization) will hold a 'K-Tourism Roadshow' in three Japanese cities – Fukuoka, Hiroshima, and Tokyo – from April 8th to 10th. This event is aimed at preempting travel demand ahead of Japan's Golden Week holidays (April 29th to May 6th), and Second Vice Minister Jang Mi-ran will visit Fukuoka and Tokyo to personally work on expanding the attraction of Japanese tourists.
Last year, South Korea was the most visited country by Japanese tourists, with one out of every four Japanese overseas travelers visiting Korea. While the overall recovery rate of Japanese overseas travel is about 65% compared to pre-COVID-19 levels, travel to Korea showed a rapid recovery rate of 98.5%. A recent survey conducted by Japan's leading travel agency JTB also ranked Korea as the top overseas travel destination that Japanese people are considering visiting, indicating that demand for visiting Korea is expected to continue this year. As of February this year, the number of Japanese visitors to Korea increased by 22% compared to the previous year, and the government aims to surpass the record of 3.52 million visitors in 2012 and achieve the highest number of visitors ever this year.
Under the theme of '#Connect, Korea (#繋がる、韓国)', this year's 'K-Tourism Roadshow' will bring together six local governments nationwide, regional tourism organizations, the Korea Association of Travel Agents, and tourism-related industries to intensively promote Korea's appeal as a close and familiar travel destination.
