From Chungnam's First Night Torch Lighting Ceremony to Media Torch, 119 Runners Participate

The torch for the 'Chungcheongnam-do Citizens' Sports Festival' is set to blaze in Cheonan for the first time in 21 years.

Cheonan City announced on the 22nd that the final torchbearers for the '2025 77th Chungcheongnam-do Citizens' Sports Festival' have been confirmed.

The city selected 119 torchbearers through an open recruitment process, including sports prodigies and representatives from agriculture, education, manufacturing, and self-employment.

These individuals will run 31 sections, representing each town, township, and neighborhood, from June 10th to 12th.

The torch lighting ceremony will take place on the 10th at the Gyeoreu-ui Tap (Tower of the Nation's Spirit) in the Independence Hall, marking Chungnam's first-ever night torch lighting ceremony. The first torchbearers will be Yu Hye-gyeong, head of the Cheonan branch of the Yu Gwan-sun Patriot Memorial Association, and her officials, who are descendants of the independence activist Yu Gwan-sun. They will light the flame.

The lighting ceremony will feature a media facade to enhance the significance of the provincial sports festival torch lighting, and the Cheonan City Dance Company will present a theme performance.

After being carried through various towns, townships, and neighborhoods, the lit torch will be enshrined at the Bell Pavilion in Cheonan City on the 11th. Members of the Cheonan City Council will participate as the enshrinement torchbearers.

The torch lighting ceremony, signaling the start of the festival, will be held at the opening ceremony on the 12th. The main torchbearers for the lighting ceremony have been selected from Cheonan's representative sports stars and will be revealed during the lighting performance.

The opening ceremony is planned to feature a theme performance celebrating the torch, showcasing Cheonan City's identity and vision, along with a drone light show that will beautifully adorn the night sky.

Furthermore, a media torch will be lit for the first time in the history of the provincial sports festival. The media torch, installed around the Oryunmun Square, will be lit via a live broadcast link with the torch inside the main stadium.

The media torch, measuring 4m wide and 6m high, is expected to offer spectators a unique experience with its captivating visuals.

Meanwhile, the '2025 77th Chungcheongnam-do Citizens' Sports Festival' will take place over four days, from June 12th to 15th, across Cheonan City. The opening ceremony, marking the start of the festival, will be held at 6:30 PM on June 12th at the Cheonan Sports Complex Main Stadium.
