Cheongju, South Korea – The Cheongju Women's Organizations Council (CWOC) held a "Happy Sharing" event on June 18, 2025, at the Geumcheon-dong Administrative Welfare Center. The event, titled 'Making Yeolmu Kimchi with Multicultural Families,' brought together members of the CWOC and approximately 50 individuals from multicultural households, including women who have immigrated through marriage.

This initiative aimed to foster community spirit and cultural exchange by engaging participants in the traditional Korean culinary art of making yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi), a popular summertime dish. The event provided a hands-on experience for multicultural families to learn about and participate in a significant aspect of Korean culture, while also strengthening bonds within the community.

The 200 tubs of yeolmu kimchi prepared during the event will be distributed to vulnerable groups within the city. Beneficiaries include five local shelters for victims of domestic violence, as well as organizations supporting individuals with physical disabilities and the homeless. This act of sharing underscores the CWOC's commitment to social welfare and supporting underserved populations in Cheongju.

"We believe that sharing food is a powerful way to connect people and build a stronger community," stated a representative from the CWOC. "This event not only celebrates Korean culinary traditions but also extends a hand of support to those in need, embodying the spirit of solidarity and compassion."

The collaboration between the CWOC and multicultural families highlights a growing effort in Cheongju to integrate and empower its diverse residents. Events like these provide valuable platforms for cultural understanding, skill-sharing, and collective action, contributing to a more inclusive and harmonious society.
