Gloria Oviedo, a renowned dance educator, has concluded a remarkable 26-year journey at the Superior Institute of Fine Arts (ISBA). Known for her unwavering dedication to dance education, Oviedo’s departure marks the end of an era at the institution.

Oviedo officially said goodbye to the faculty and students during a special closing ceremony held on October 30th. As she embarks on a new chapter in her career at the National Secretariat of Culture, the dance community reflects on her significant contributions to the ISBA.

Reflecting on her time at ISBA, Oviedo emphasized the profound impact the School of Dance has had on her personal and professional growth. "I joined the School of Dance in 1998, and since then, it has been a space of incredible growth for me," she shared in an interview with HOY/Nación Media. "In 2016, I took on the role of Head of the Dance Department, followed by Academic Director of ISBA in 2022 and Artistic Director of the ISBA Dance Company from 2019 to October 2024."

Oviedo expressed deep gratitude to her predecessor, Elizabeth Arzamendia, for fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. "I am truly grateful to the School of Dance for everything it has given me," she added.

During her tenure at ISBA, Oviedo has created over 100 choreographic compositions and prepared countless students for competitions, achieving outstanding results both nationally and internationally. Her exceptional work has earned her numerous awards and recognitions, including accolades for best choreographer and creativity.

As Oviedo moves on to her new role, the dance community in Paraguay will undoubtedly continue to benefit from her expertise and passion for the arts.
