The 26th Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics (AOCMP 2026) successfully wrapped up its three-day schedule with a closing ceremony held on September 11 at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center (BPEX). 

Held under the theme "Beyond Precision through Intelligent Innovation for Advanced Patient Care," the congress ran from September 9 to 11. It drew medical physics experts, researchers, healthcare professionals, and industry stakeholders from 23 countries across the Asia-Oceania region and beyond. 

Key figures attending the event included Prof. Kyochul Shin, Congress President of AOCMP 2026; Prof. Dr. Hasin Anupama Azhari, President of the Asia-Oceania Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (AFOMP); Prof. John Damilakis, Past President of the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP); and Dr. Kum Bae Kim, President of the Korean Society of Medical Physics (KSMP). They added significance to the event by delivering congratulatory remarks and encouragement. 

The academic program featured cutting-edge research findings and clinical applications spanning across medical physics fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), radiation therapy, medical imaging, radiation safety, nuclear medicine, and precision medicine. A total of 316 abstracts were submitted, featuring diverse sessions including keynote lectures, invited talks, oral presentations, and electronic poster displays. 

Notably, keynote speeches—such as the presentation on radiation therapy and artificial intelligence by Prof. Tomas Kron—alongside sessions by renowned domestic and international researchers, highlighted the event. Participants deeply discussed the future direction of patient-centric healthcare utilizing advanced technologies and the evolving roles of medical physicists in upcoming healthcare environments. 

In addition to academic programs, industrial sessions and exhibition booths showcased the latest trends in medical technologies and equipment. These spaces allowed academia, the medical sector, and industry stakeholders to expand information sharing and explore possibilities for joint research and technological cooperation. Networking events like the welcome reception and gala dinner further strengthened international ties and solidified a continuous cooperative foundation for the region's medical physics community. 

During the closing ceremony on the final day, an academic awards ceremony honored researchers and presenters for their outstanding contributions. A total of 23 individuals received awards across categories including the Young Investigator Award, Best Oral Presentation Award, Best Poster-Oral Presentation Award, and Best Poster Presentation Award. 

Congress President Prof. Kyochul Shin stated, "This congress served as a meaningful venue where researchers worldwide shared knowledge and experiences to explore the path forward for medical physics amid rapid advancements in AI and high-tech medical technologies. We look forward to seeing the international cooperation fostered in Busan translate into collaborative research and advancements in patient-centered care." He also expressed deep gratitude to all domestic and international speakers, participants, sponsors, and organizing staff for making the event a success.
