The 2027 Chungcheong Universiade Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as the "Organizing Committee") announced that it has appointed former Daejeon Mayor Yeom Hong-chul as the chairperson of the organizing committee, stepping up preparations for the successful hosting of the event.

The Organizing Committee has been proceeding with the process of appointing the chairperson through the Executive Committee and the General Assembly since last August. Receiving approval for his inauguration from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism on August 31, Chairperson Yeom began his official schedule on September 1.

As his first official schedule, Chairperson Yeom attended the inauguration event held in the conference room of the Organizing Committee. Around 360 employees of the Organizing Committee attended the event to congratulate the new chairperson on his inauguration and pledged to do their utmost in preparations during the remaining period for the successful hosting of the tournament.

Chairperson Yeom is evaluated as the right person for the position, having served three terms as the Mayor of Daejeon, possessing both rich administrative experience and a high understanding of regional issues.

Based on this, he plans to strengthen cooperation with related domestic and international organizations, including the government, the four cities and provinces of the Chungcheong region, the sports community, and the International University Sports Federation (FISU), and lead tournament preparations.

In his inaugural address, Chairperson Yeom emphasized, "The 2027 Chungcheong Universiade is the first large-scale sports event of the four cities and provinces in the Chungcheong region, created by Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong, and North Chungcheong coming together as one," adding, "It is a 'Mega Challenge' that the 5.6 million Chungcheong residents must build together through the power of harmony and solidarity, transcending different administrations and conditions."

Finally, he emphasized, "Let us move forward vigorously, trusting and encouraging one another, so that the 'Mega Challenge' we undertake together can blossom into a 'Mega Change' that touches Chungcheong and the entire world."

Taking the inauguration of Chairperson Yeom as an opportunity, the Organizing Committee plans to inspect preparation statuses by sector—such as game operations, the athletes' village, transportation, accommodation, and safety—and flesh out detailed implementation plans. In addition, it intends to strengthen cooperative systems with related organizations to prepare flawlessly for the tournament, which will be held from August 1 to August 12, 2027.
