Aerostar Puerto Rico and The Mall of San Juan Partner to Expand Airport Parking

San Juan, Puerto Rico – Aerostar Puerto Rico, the operator of Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, and The Mall of San Juan have announced a new partnership to address the increasing demand for airport parking. The agreement will provide an additional 500 parking spaces, helping to alleviate congestion and accommodate the growing number of travelers.

According to Jorge Hernández, president of Aerostar, the estimated investment in logistics and operations for the new service will exceed $1 million. The partnership with The Mall of San Juan will enable the airport to offer a more convenient parking option for travelers.

While the agreement has been finalized, a specific start date has not yet been set. Hernández emphasized that Aerostar is currently working on the logistics, design, and procurement processes to launch the new service, which is expected to begin operations in early 2025.

Once the service is operational, Aerostar will announce the parking rates and hours.

"Operating an airport requires providing passengers with a variety of transportation options to ensure they arrive at their flights on time," said Hernández. "These options include on-site and off-site rental car facilities, taxis, ride-sharing services, and the ability for friends and family to drop off or pick up passengers. All of these options must coexist in the same space, which presents a significant operational challenge, especially given the exponential growth in air travel since the pandemic."

The new parking service at The Mall of San Juan will include a shuttle service operated by Aerostar, providing round-trip transportation between the mall and the airport. This will add to the existing range of parking options available to passengers and employees.

When asked about the security of vehicles parked at the mall, Hernández stated that the operation will include security measures and insurance coverage. He also confirmed that there are no current plans to partner with other shopping centers.

"We are focused on this partnership with The Mall of San Juan and other initiatives that are located near the airport," Hernández said.

Marnie Marquina, general manager of The Mall of San Juan, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership. "The collaboration between Aerostar Puerto Rico and The Mall of San Juan strengthens our position as a leading tourist and shopping destination in Puerto Rico," she said. "This partnership, which facilitates the connection between the airport and the mall, will enhance the traveler's experience and provide greater accessibility and convenience for airport employees."
