 (C) ASE 2025 Organizing Committee

The 40th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Automated Software Engineering, known as ASE 2025, is currently underway in Seoul, South Korea, establishing a new benchmark for the prestigious software engineering symposium. Held from November 16th to 20th at the Grand Walkerhill Seoul in Gwangjin-gu, this year's conference marks an unprecedented expansion in scale, doubling the size of previous iterations and solidifying its reputation as the "Olympics of Software Developers."

Over 1,000 leading researchers and industry experts from across the globe have converged on the South Korean capital to share the latest knowledge and advancements in software technology. ASE is recognized as one of the premier academic conferences in the field, focusing on the automated analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of software.

A Global Collaboration in Automated Software Engineering

The conference is a collaborative effort, jointly hosted by the Korea Information Science Society's Software Engineering Society (chaired by Professor Jungwon Lee of Ajou University), alongside the international giants, the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery). Professor Shin Yoo of KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) serves as the General Chair for the event.

The scale of the event attracted significant sponsorship from both domestic and international entities. Major domestic support comes from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, LG Electronics, KAIST, and SureSoftTech. Global corporate leaders such as Google, Huawei, and JetBrains are also participating as key sponsors, underscoring the conference's international stature and industry relevance.

Star-Studded Keynote Lineup

ASE 2025 boasts a remarkable roster of keynote speakers, featuring some of the most influential figures in automated software engineering and its related fields.

Among the headliners is Dr. Thomas W. Reps, Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a globally recognized authority in program analysis. He is joined by Dr. Cristina Cifuentes, Vice President of Software Assurance at Oracle, a key figure representing the industry perspective on software innovation. Adding a layer of cutting-edge research and security expertise is Taesu Kim, Senior Managing Director at Samsung Electronics and Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, who achieved victory in the DARPA AI Cyber Challenge, organized by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

These speakers are presenting on crucial topics that define the future trajectory of the field, including the evolution of automated software engineering, the convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and security, and practical examples of innovative technologies being deployed in industrial settings.

Innovative Presentation Format Encourages Deeper Dialogue

In a significant first for the conference, the expanded scale of ASE 2025 has led to a major structural change in the presentation format. Over 400 research papers are being presented through a combined system of both oral and poster presentations. This innovative approach allows presenters and attendees to engage in more in-depth discussions and facilitate a richer exchange of ideas, moving beyond the traditional, time-constrained oral presentation model.

The multi-faceted program also includes industry exhibitions, tool demonstrations, workshops, a student research competition, and a symposium for new faculty members, ensuring broad participation across the academic and industrial spectrum.

Organizers have hailed the Seoul conference as a critical platform for fostering substantive cooperation. By gathering leading experts from academia and industry in one place, ASE 2025 is facilitating discussions on joint research initiatives, technology transfer, and practical industrial applications.

A representative from the ASE 2025 Organizing Committee expressed optimism about the event's impact. "Amidst the convergence of advanced technologies such as AI, cloud computing, and security with software engineering, ASE 2025 is poised to define the future direction of automated software engineering," the representative stated. "Furthermore, it serves as a valuable opportunity to showcase Korea's information technology capabilities to the global community." The record-breaking attendance and comprehensive program underscore the pivotal role that Seoul and South Korea are playing in the global advancement of software development.
