A Profound Stage with Korean Traditional Music Masters… June 11-12 at the Small Stage of the Korean Traditional Music Center

The Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center is preparing a special stage where the tradition and artistic depth of Korean traditional music can be experienced in one place. The center will host the special performance, 'Night of Master Sanjo – As It Is,' on Wednesday, June 11th, and Thursday, June 12th, at 7:30 PM, at the Small Stage of the Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center. This performance promises to deliver deep resonance to the audience by showcasing the essence of Korean music, including Sanjo, Daepungryu, and Sinawi, through the hands of Korean traditional music masters.

The Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center, which has contributed to the promotion of local culture and arts since the opening of the Daejeon Citizen's Hall in 1979, will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its new building's opening on June 17th. To commemorate this, the upcoming performance was planned to invite masters of Korean traditional music who possess both artistic merit and popular appeal, with the aim of fully conveying the beauty and depth of traditional Korean music.

'Sanjo' is a solo folk instrumental piece that gradually transitions from a slow tempo to a faster one, a genre where the performer's individuality and the instrument's characteristics are clearly highlighted. 'Daepungryu' is an ensemble piece primarily featuring bamboo wind instruments such as daegeum, piri, and haegeum. 'Sinawi' is an impromptu instrumental ensemble originating from shamanic music, characterized by diverse musical breathing.

The performance will be held over two days. On June 11th, Sanjo for piri, daegeum, and haegeum, along with Daepungryu, will be presented. Following this, on June 12th, Sanjo for gayageum, geomungo, and ajaeng, along with Sinawi, will be performed.

Each performance will feature masters who have inherited the representative schools for each instrument, along with outstanding performers, promising a truly moving musical experience where the subtle nuances and intricate harmonies of traditional music come together.

Tickets can be reserved on the Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center website (www.daejeon.go.kr/kmusic) and Interpark (ticket.interpark.com). For other inquiries, please contact the Korean Traditional Music Center at ☎042-270-8500.

Yu Han-jun, Director of the Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center, stated, "To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the new building's opening, we have prepared this performance by inviting masters who encompass the past and present of Korean traditional music." He added, "We hope for the public's great interest and attendance at this meaningful performance, where you can feel the true essence of Korean traditional music."
