Burauen, Leyte – Speaker Martin Romualdez pledged the House of Representatives' continued support for disaster preparedness and recovery programs during the ceremonial turnover of 3,517 permanent housing units for Super Typhoon Yolanda survivors in Burauen, Leyte.

The Yolanda Permanent Housing Program (YPHP), spearheaded by the National Housing Authority (NHA), aims to provide dignified homes for families displaced by the devastating typhoon that struck the region 11 years ago. 1,963 units have already been awarded and occupied.

"These homes symbolize new hope and a fresh start for our countrymen devastated by Yolanda," Romualdez stated, emphasizing the importance of providing security and certainty for all Filipinos. He expressed gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his continued support for the province.

Each housing unit, ranging from 22 to 28.6 square meters, is built on a lot of approximately 40 square meters.

Romualdez highlighted the crucial role of collaboration between the national government and local stakeholders in building disaster resilience. "The success of this project is a testament to the collective effort of all sectors, from the government to our communities," he said.

As of December 2024, the NHA has successfully completed 175,728 out of the 189,800 target housing units. The remaining units are scheduled for completion by December 2025. 67% of the completed units, amounting to 133,725, are currently occupied by beneficiaries.

"Each home is a symbol of hope," Romualdez concluded, "and every project is proof of our collective effort towards a better future."
