The floating hospital ship 'Capitán Ingeniero Carlos Cubas,' which navigates the Paraguay River, has completed its fifth medical mission for residents of riverside communities. The destination this time was the village of Humaitá in the Ñeembucú department, where over 2,500 residents received medical and dental care.
The mission, which took place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. last Saturday, saw a particularly high demand for ophthalmology services. Dr. Roberto Marengo, Director of Health for the Paraguayan Navy, stated that approximately 300 people received eye exams, and 350 pairs of glasses were provided free of charge. Along with consultations, medicines were distributed, and there was also a time for residents and medical staff to share a meal together.
This medical aid was conducted with the cooperation of the 18th Health Region and the 12th Health Region (Ñeembucú). According to Dr. Marengo, the floating hospital ship offers a variety of services, including internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics. He added that the medical staff provides a high level of medical care with exceptional professionalism and a warm, human touch.
To date, the floating hospital ship has made a total of five voyages, reaching more than 7,500 residents and performing approximately 10,000 medical procedures. Their efforts have been highly praised by local residents and government officials. The Humaitá state government presented certificates of appreciation to the medical staff who participated in the mission, expressing gratitude for their dedication.
This mission was a great help to the residents of riverside villages who normally have difficulty accessing medical services. This 'moving hospital' that floats on the water delivers not only simple treatment but also a message of hope and sharing to the local community.
