Varadero, Cuba – A substantial delegation from Zimbabwe has arrived in Cuba to participate in the World Youth Summit (GYS-25), a key event focused on the future of technology and youth engagement. The summit, hosted by the International Telecommunication Union and the Cuban Ministry of Communications, will take place in the resort city of Varadero from March 11-13.

The Zimbabwean delegation, comprising numerous high-ranking officials, is under the leadership of Deputy Minister of Information, Communications and Technology, Dingumuzi Phuti, and Gift Machengete, Director General of the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. This strong presence underscores Zimbabwe's commitment to advancing its technological infrastructure and digital literacy.

The government of President Emmerson D. Mnangagwa has placed a high priority on the development of the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, as outlined in the nation's development plan for 2030. Initiatives such as the construction of "Cyber City" and the implementation of a "Young Ambassadors" digital skills program demonstrate this commitment.

The GYS-25 summit serves as a platform for young people from around the world to exchange ideas and perspectives on the evolving landscape of ICT. Discussions will center on critical issues such as the digital empowerment of youth, cybersecurity, innovative business models, and the ethical implications of artificial intelligence.

This global gathering aims to foster a more inclusive and connected future, with a particular emphasis on amplifying the voices of young people in shaping the technological world.
