Cheonan, South Korea – The long-awaited expansion and renovation of Cheonan Station on the Gyeongbu Line is finally set to begin, the Cheonan city government announced on March 27th. The construction contract has been awarded to the Yuchang E&C Consortium, paving the way for a significant upgrade to this key transportation hub.

The winning consortium is led by Yuchang E&C Co., Ltd., holding a 55% stake, and includes partners Dongsung Construction Co., Ltd. (25%) and Myungga Engineering Co., Ltd. (20%). The city expressed confidence in Yuchang E&C's ability to deliver the project successfully, highlighting the company's extensive track record in railway station construction. Their portfolio includes notable projects such as GTX-A Unjeong Central Station and its associated depot, Shinbundang Line's Nonhyeon and Sinnonhyeon stations, Seohae Line's Wonjong Station, and Bucheon Sports Complex Station.

Currently, the Yuchang E&C Consortium is in the process of finalizing the contract with the Korea National Railway Authority. This process is anticipated to take approximately two weeks, with the city projecting that the full-scale construction work will commence in the following month.

Cheonan Mayor Park Sang-don expressed his enthusiasm for the project's advancement. "With the selection of the construction company for the Cheonan Station expansion and renovation project, we will break ground as soon as possible, fulfilling the wishes of our citizens," stated Mayor Park. He further emphasized the transformative potential of the upgraded station, adding, "We anticipate that the new Cheonan Station will become a landmark that will inject vitality into the original downtown area."

The expansion and renovation project is expected to modernize the station facilities, improve passenger flow, and enhance the overall user experience. The revitalization of Cheonan Station is seen as a crucial step in boosting the local economy and improving connectivity within the region.
