Cheonan, South Korea – The fifth Cheonan City Children's Participation Group has successfully presented a series of policy proposals directly to Mayor Park Sang-don, highlighting the importance of incorporating children’s perspectives in city governance.

At a special event held on the 14th, over 100 children, parents, and officials gathered to celebrate the presentation of 14 innovative policy ideas. Composed of both a Children's Participation Committee and a Children's Rights Monitoring Group, the organization has been actively working to promote children's rights within the city.

The Children's Participation Committee, consisting of 35 students from various schools, unveiled six groundbreaking proposals, including a QR code system to identify smoking areas, a safety campaign for children using kick scooters, and a cultural pass program for families with dual-income households.

Meanwhile, the Children's Rights Monitoring Group, comprised of 40 elementary school students, presented eight policy suggestions, such as the establishment of a Cheonan City Children's Reporter program, the promotion of diverse physical activities in schools, the creation of a safer media environment, and the development of more spaces for children's mental well-being.

Mayor Park Sang-don expressed his gratitude for the children's active participation and pledged to carefully consider each proposal. "Providing children with the opportunity to participate in policymaking and listening to their voices is crucial," he said. "We will thoroughly review these suggestions and work to incorporate them into our city policies."

Cheonan City, which was certified as a UNICEF Child-Friendly City in May 2022, has been actively promoting children's rights since 2020 through the establishment of the Children's Participation Committee and the Children's Rights Monitoring Group.
