Preliminary and final rounds to be broadcast on KBS on the 5th and 12th of next month, promoting Sejong as a Hangeul culture city 

The City of Sejong (Mayor Cho Sang-ho) announced on the 29th that the "2026 Children's Hangeul King Contest," where children from across the country compete in their Korean language skills, has concluded amidst nationwide enthusiasm.

The Children's Hangeul King Contest is a Korean language competition promoted in cooperation with KBS to provide children with an opportunity to enjoyably learn the value of the Korean language and Hangeul, and to spread the value of Sejong as a Hangeul culture city nationwide.

This year's competition saw 471 elementary school students participate nationwide, and following a written test in July and preliminary rounds in August, 8 children advanced to the final stage.

They competed in their honed Korean language skills through various questions on Korean vocabulary, expressions, and Hangeul culture during the preliminary and final rounds held on the 22nd and 29th of this month, respectively.

The participants' performances can be viewed on KBS 1TV’s "Uri-mal Gyeoru-gi" (Korean Language Battle) on October 5th and 12th.

The preliminary round will be broadcast on October 5th, and the final round on the 12th, with the final "Children's Hangeul King" scheduled to be revealed during the final broadcast.

In addition, videos featuring Sejong's Hangeul cultural resources and major attractions will be included in the preliminary and final broadcasts to promote the diverse charms of Sejong as a Hangeul culture city nationwide.

The city expects this competition to serve as an opportunity to raise interest in Hangeul and the Korean language among children nationwide, while promoting Sejong's various Hangeul cultural resources and its image as a Hangeul culture city across the country.

Namgoong Ho, Director-General of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "We prepared this competition so that children across the country could naturally learn and experience the value of Hangeul while competing in their Korean language skills. We hope you will join us in watching the children's challenges and the diverse aspects of Sejong, the Hangeul culture city, through the broadcast."
