Craft artists from Jinan, Muju, and Jangsu gather in one place to recreate the traditional lifestyle culture of mountain villages through crafts.

Exhibitions, hands-on experiences, traditional games, and more to be held at the Jinan Creative Craft Workshop on October 17.

The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Culture and Tourism Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Foundation) announced that the Jinan Creative Craft Workshop Promotion Association, selected for the "2026 Creative Space Revitalization Support Project," will hold the "Garim Craft Festival" on October 17 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Jinan Creative Craft Workshop.

The "Garim Craft Festival" is an event designed to recreate the old lifestyle culture and customs of mountain villages, including Jinan, through crafts and to experience traditional local games. In addition to craft artist exhibitions and hands-on programs, the event will feature programs centered on mountain village lifestyle culture.

Key experiential programs include a straw egg bundle making competition, a sparrow trap production demonstration combined with a bait-picking game, and an old wooden cart race. Participants can directly make egg bundles—which were used before paper pulp egg cartons became widespread—and enjoy games utilizing traditional traps once used to catch sparrows in the winter, as well as wooden carts used to carry and pull children.

Craftspeople active at the Jinan Creative Craft Workshop, along with craft village artists from the neighboring regions of Muju and Jangsu, will participate in the event. Participating artists will exhibit craftworks across various genres and operate hands-on programs for visitors to participate directly.

In addition, writer Park So-young, a native of the Yongdam Lake submerged area, will read from her prose collection "Hello," which captures the old scenery of Jinan, and hold a publication signing event, conveying the memories of Jinan through literature. Various other performances will also be held.

In particular, this event was organized to broaden the scope of creative exchange between regions and to interpret the lifestyle culture and memories of mountain villages through various artistic activities such as crafts, games, and literature, allowing visitors to experience local cultural resources in new ways.

Choi Young-gyu, Secretary-General, stated, "Local creative spaces serve as an important cultural and artistic foundation where not only artists' creative activities take place, but also where artists and local residents meet and exchange. We will continue to support creative spaces so they can connect unique local cultural resources with art and flourish as hubs for continuous creation and exchange."

Meanwhile, the "Creative Space Revitalization Support Project" is an initiative designed to revitalize artists' creation and exchanges based on local creative spaces, enabling residents to experience diverse culture and art throughout the region. It holds significance in establishing a foundation where local artists and creative spaces can continuously pursue creative activities utilizing local cultural resources.

For further details, inquiries can be made to the Jinan Creative Craft Workshop Promotion Association (010-2600-6192).
