Las Vegas, Nevada – January 8, 2025 – Samsung Display announced today at CES 2025 that it will be supplying a rollable OLED display for Lenovo’s new ThinkBook Plus G6 Rollable. Lenovo unveiled the new notebook yesterday and is set to launch it in June.
Lenovo’s ThinkBook Plus G6 Rollable features a unique design where a portion of the rollable display is stored beneath the keyboard. In its standard state, it functions as a conventional 14-inch notebook with a 5:4 aspect ratio. However, by pressing a specific button, the screen can be ‘rolled out’, extending vertically by approximately 50% to create a larger 16.7-inch display with an 8:9 aspect ratio. This elongated screen is particularly advantageous for multitasking.
Samsung Display has incorporated its ‘Eco Square OLED’ technology into the rollable display supplied to Lenovo. This technology eliminates the polarizer and introduces a new panel lamination structure, resulting in a thinner panel and approximately 30% lower power consumption. By eliminating the plastic-based polarizer, the technology is considered more environmentally friendly. While Samsung Display has been applying this technology to premium smartphone panels, this is the first time it has been used in a notebook panel.
“Given the nature of rollable displays, the entire screen is subject to stress,” said a Samsung Display official. “Drawing on our extensive experience in foldable displays, we have been able to ensure the durability of rollable products.” The official added, “Rollable technology will revolutionize the portability and user experience of notebooks.”
