Chungnam Province Captivates Frankfurt with Geumsan Ginseng and Regional Tourism

The Chungcheongnam-do Germany Office, in close collaboration with Geumsan County, has successfully expanded its horizon beyond supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with European exports. The province has made significant strides in aggressively marketing local tourism and specialty products directly to European consumers.

On September 7, 2026, provincial authorities announced that the Chungnam Tourism Promotion Pavilion successfully wrapped up its run at the "K-Culture & Travel Festival 2026," held at the Galeria Department Store in Frankfurt, Germany, on September 4 and 5. Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), this large-scale Business-to-Consumer (B2C) event leveraged Hallyu (the Korean Wave) content to showcase the diverse charms of South Korea in a core commercial district with heavy pedestrian traffic.

The high-profile festival featured a total of 28 organizations and companies distributed across four distinct zones: tourism, food, content, and lifestyle. Capitalizing on this vibrant environment, the Chungnam Germany Office spearheaded a convergence promotion centered around "Geumsan Ginseng," the region's premier specialty product, cleverly intertwining local tourism, traditional culture, and agricultural foods.

A standout feature of this year's exhibition was the meticulous division of labor between the Chungnam Germany Office and Geumsan County, spanning everything from the initial planning of the pavilion to its on-site execution. This strategic coordination maximized administrative and marketing synergies, setting a benchmark for future regional collaborations overseas.

Inside the Chungnam pavilion, engaging interactive programs captured the attention of local visitors. Crowds were drawn to various promotional events that distributed popular merchandise, including "Samdongi" character dolls and auspicious lucky bags filled with ginseng snacks. Meanwhile, at the main stage, officials delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the historical depth and health benefits of Geumsan ginseng to local consumers and members of the press.

The promotional efforts extended to culinary engagement, featuring tasting and sampling sessions for a wide array of processed ginseng products. Offerings such as red ginseng tea, red ginseng canapés, sliced red ginseng, and ginseng wine received enthusiastic responses, proving that traditional Korean medicinal herbs can successfully appeal to European palates.

Building on the triumphant momentum in Frankfurt, the Chungnam Germany Office plans to maintain its aggressive marketing trajectory. On September 12, the office will participate in the "Oberursel Korea Meeting Day," operating a dedicated "K-Ginseng Café" to continuously promote Geumsan ginseng export goods. Furthermore, officials are set to join the "Korea Tourism Business Event" in Frankfurt on September 21, sustaining targeted promotional activities aimed at local travel agencies, tourism operators, and European media outlets.

A representative from Chungnam Province emphasized that the regional government will continue its collaborative framework to help stellar local specialties—such as Geumsan ginseng and Gongju chestnuts—carve out sustainable overseas distribution channels. The official reaffirmed that leveraging overseas offices will remain central to driving not only SME export growth, but also cementing global recognition for Chungnam's rich tourism assets and iconic regional products.
