The 《School of Photography》 exhibition, hosted by Photo Chungbuk, is scheduled to run from October 2 to 11 at the Chungbuk Gallery Cheongju OSCO, operated by the Chungbuk Culture and Arts Foundation (CEO Kim Kyung-shik).

This special exhibition highlights the lineage of photographers who have been active in the Chungbuk region, bringing together works by artists who have pursued photography through diverse approaches. A total of 26 local photographers—consisting of 20 steering committee members and 6 invited artists—are participating to explore the past, present, and future potential of regional photography.

Although photographers have long been active using photography as a medium in Chungbuk, opportunities to connect and document their activities and works into a single continuous stream have been limited. 

The upcoming 《School of Photography》 sheds light on key figures and trajectories in Chungbuk photography, featuring prominent veterans such as Kim Dong-geun, who has preserved a pillar of regional photography by running Samho Photo Studio, and Kim Un-gi, who served as Chungbuk's first photojournalist. It serves as an occasion to examine individually maintained photographic journeys under one roof and reflect on the accumulated time and significance inherent in Chungbuk photography.

The exhibition is structured into four distinct sections:

Photographic Record 
Photographic Criticism
Photographic Practice 
Photographic Expansion

The exhibition documents the history and genealogy of photography passed down in Chungbuk, revisiting regional photographic movements that have not yet received sufficient spotlight. Through works interpreted through the individual lenses and methods of the 26 participating artists, it presents the current landscape of Chungbuk photography and explores how historical roots extend into contemporary practices. Furthermore, it weaves these streams into a cohesive context to collectively envision the future possibilities of regional photography. 

Kim Kyung-shik, CEO of the Chungbuk Culture and Arts Foundation, stated, "I hope this exhibition provides an opportunity to retrace the journey of Chungbuk photography and encounter the works of artists who have been active with diverse perspectives. I look forward to seeing how the documentation and exchange of regional photography will serve as a stepping stone for future endeavors."

Meanwhile, the Chungbuk Gallery Cheongju OSCO—located within the emerging complex cultural platform of Cheongju OSCO—plans to continue introducing regional culture and arts through exhibitions by local artists, institutions, and organizations, serving as an accessible cultural space where citizens can experience photography and visual arts in their daily lives.
