DAEJEON – Daejeon City successfully held the '2025 51st Daejeon Metropolitan City Quality Control Circle Competition' on June 9th at the Daejeon Modern and Contemporary History Exhibition Hall (formerly Chungnam Provincial Office). This event served as a regional preliminary round for the national Quality Control Circle Competition, aiming to discover on-site quality improvement activities within local businesses and widely disseminate best practices.
This year's competition saw fierce competition among 10 quality control circles from various institutions and companies. Participants included: Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation ID Business Division, Republic of Korea Army Unit 9030, Daejeon Transportation Corporation, Korea Gas Technology Corporation, KEPCO Nuclear Fuel, Hankook Tire Daejeon Plant, Samyang Packaging Co., Ltd. Daejeon 2nd Plant, HansBiomed Co., Ltd., CHCLab Co., Ltd., and Choongmoo Towel Co., Ltd. They competed across nine sectors, including field improvement, service, and Six Sigma.
Notably, Daejeon City provided expert on-site consulting from the preparation stage of this year's competition to encourage genuine quality innovation among businesses. From April, participating companies received systematic pre-guidance, including identifying key issues, designing tasks, and teaching problem-solving techniques, significantly enhancing the capabilities of the quality circles.
As a result of the competition, HansBiomed Co., Ltd.'s 'Reborn' quality control circle, which improved the Bone semi-finished product manufacturing process, was awarded the Grand Prize. Additionally, other quality control circles that completed high-quality projects were selected for the Top Excellence Award.
The Grand Prize and Top Excellence Award winning teams will earn the right to participate in the '51st National Quality Control Circle Competition,' to be held in Jeju Island in August.
Meanwhile, Daejeon City previously demonstrated the excellent quality capabilities of its local businesses nationwide, securing 14 awards at the 50th National Quality Control Circle Competition held in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province last year, including 8 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
Kwon Kyung-min, Director-General of Daejeon City's Economic Bureau, stated, "Quality control circle activities are not merely about on-site improvements; they are a core factor determining corporate competitiveness." He added, "Daejeon City will continue to actively support on-site quality innovation activities and do its best to ensure local businesses secure sustainable competitive advantages in both domestic and international markets."
