Seoul, South Korea – The SRT, South Korea's high-speed rail service, in collaboration with Hankyung Travel, has announced the winners of its 2024 SRT Awards, highlighting the nation's most captivating travel destinations. The annual awards, now in their sixth year, aim to promote domestic tourism and offer travelers a curated selection of places to explore.
A total of 12,060 people participated in the survey conducted last September, sharing their favorite destinations and experiences. Based on the survey results, a panel of travel experts, including journalists and writers, selected the top 10 destinations for 2024, considering factors such as tourist attractions, natural beauty, and cultural significance.
The top 10 destinations for 2024, according to the SRT Awards, are:
Gongju: Known as the ancient capital of Baekje, Gongju offers a rich history and cultural experiences. Visitors can explore the Jemincheon River, a popular spot for both locals and tourists, and discover various historical sites like Gongju Guesthouse and the Gongju Historical Video Archive.
Gimje: Famous for its vast plains and beautiful natural scenery, Gimje is home to the majestic Geumsansa Temple. Visitors can enjoy scenic hikes through the temple grounds and witness the breathtaking autumn foliage.
Buyeo: Another ancient Baekje capital, Buyeo boasts the 123 Sabi Craft Village, a unique cultural space housed in restored buildings.
Suwon: This historic city is renowned for Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can stroll along the 5.7km-long fortress wall and explore the charming Hanok Village.
Asan: Asan is a popular destination for relaxation and wellness. The city offers a variety of attractions, including the beautiful Shinjeong Lake Park.
Ansan: Located on the west coast, Ansan is a coastal city known for its beautiful beaches and hiking trails. The Daebudo Island offers stunning views of the Yellow Sea.
Ulsan Namgu: This district is famous for its whaling history and industrial heritage. Visitors can explore the Jangsaengpo Cultural Warehouse, a unique space that showcases the region's maritime past.
Wonju: Known for its natural beauty, Wonju is a popular destination for nature lovers. The ancient Banggye-ri Ginkgo tree is a must-see attraction.
Jeongeup: Home to Naejangsan National Park, Jeongeup offers breathtaking mountain scenery and hiking trails. The park is particularly beautiful during the autumn foliage season.
Cheongju: This city is gaining popularity as a wellness destination. Visitors can relax and rejuvenate at the Chojeong Healing Village, which features natural hot springs and various wellness programs.
