Jeonju, South Korea – The Jeonju International Film Festival is set to play a more active role in revitalizing the local economy and supporting small businesses this year. The festival's organizing committee announced on [date] that it plans to expand its partnership program from 44 businesses last year to a maximum of 60 this year.
The festival is also diversifying the types of businesses it partners with. Beyond cafes and restaurants, the committee aims to include medical clinics, opticians, beauty salons, and convenience stores to offer a wider range of benefits to festival attendees.
To encourage visitors to explore local businesses, the festival will introduce various programs, including a stamp tour event. Participants can collect stamps by visiting partner businesses and receive prizes.
"We will gradually implement this expanded partnership program to help increase sales for local businesses," said a representative from the Jeonju International Film Festival organizing committee. "We also aim to establish long-term partnerships with small businesses, transforming the film festival into a cultural event that grows alongside the local community."
Jeonju Mayor Woo Beom-gi emphasized the festival's broader economic impact, stating, "The festival is not just about screening films; it's also about revitalizing the local economy by collaborating with small businesses throughout Jeonju. By partnering with a diverse range of businesses, we aim to provide visitors with a deeper experience of Jeonju and offer tangible support to local merchants."
Starting in March, the festival organizing committee will visit small businesses in the Movie Street, Gyeokridan-gil, and Weryidan-gil areas to introduce the program and recruit partners.
