The Volkswagen Atlas, a flagship large-size SUV, has demonstrated its superior safety by earning the "Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+)"—the highest rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States.

According to Volkswagen Korea on the 24th, the 2026 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport successfully met the rigorous assessment criteria recently updated by the IIHS. The IIHS evaluates crashworthiness and crash prevention systems for vehicles released in the U.S. market every year to determine safety rankings.

Starting this year, the criteria have become significantly more stringent, requiring a "Good" rating in the updated moderate overlap front crash and side impact tests. The Atlas achieved "Good" ratings in these categories, as well as in the small overlap evaluations, proving its robust structural integrity.

The vehicle’s accident prevention technology also received high marks. It secured an "Acceptable" rating in the pedestrian front crash prevention test and a "Good" rating for its headlights. These achievements are attributed to the standard inclusion of "IQ.Drive," Volkswagen’s advanced driver assistance system, and adaptive LED headlights that adjust lighting based on the steering direction.

With this latest recognition, the Atlas has maintained a winning streak of IIHS safety awards for three consecutive years since its 2024 debut. A representative from Volkswagen Korea stated, "The Atlas combines top-tier safety certified by the IIHS with overwhelming interior space and powerful performance. It will continue to establish itself as a premium choice in the Korean large SUV market."
